Prof. Toomas Timpka
After having defended his thesis in medical informatics at Linköping University in 1989, Toomas Timpka received tenure to Associate professor in Informatics at the Linköping Institute of Technology in 1991, and tenure to Associate Professor in Social Medicine at the Medical faculty in
1992. He was professor of Informatics at Linkoping University 1997-98 and has been Professor of Social Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Linkoping University from 1998. Timpka coordinates the Safe Sports International network of sports safety researchers, and the CriSim group of crisis mangement scientists. He has published one book and more than 200 articles in scientific periodicals, and is listed in Who'sWho in the World. Timpka has more than 30 years of experience from amateur soccer and 20 years from amatuer bandy as player and coach, all without winning anything significant.
Prof Caroline Finch
Professor of Human Movement Science and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Principal Research Fellow within the School of Human Movement and Sport Science at the University of Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. Her broad research program is in the population health area of injury prevention and control. The primary context of application of her research is in on sports and physical activity related injury and the use of exercise to prevent other injuries. Prior to joining the University of Ballarat, she was the Inaugural Chair of Injury Risk Management at the University of New South Wales and the Director of the NSW Injury Risk Management Research Centre.
In addition to her sports injury interests, Prof Finch is also a strong advocate for high quality sports medicine and sports science research. Since January 2002, she has been the Editor-in-Chief of the international peer-review journal: the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport which aims to promote multidisciplinary research with specific applications to sport and exercise and its interaction with health.
Asst Prof. Claude Goulet
Since September 2006, Claude Goulet is professor at the Department of Physical Education at Laval University (Québec City, Canada). He has a Ph.D. in motor learning from Laval University. He has been actively involved in sport injury prevention research since 1989. He previously was the Director of Research for the Safety Promotion Unit of the Secretariat for leisure and sport, in the Government of Québec. The Secretariat is responsible for applying the Act respecting Safety in Sports. This governmental legislation gives the Secretariat responsibility for supervising personal safety and integrity in the practice of sports. It covers the broad spectrum of sports and physical activities: from organised to non-organised, and from recreation level to elite competitive level. The legislation provides for research, education and regulation functions. His research activities cover fields such as, epidemiology of sport and recreational activity injuries, injury surveillance, program assessment, psychosocial aspects of injury prevention, risk taking behaviours, and the measurement of the burden of injuries. He has also recently undertaken researches to highlight the driving factors of behaviour associated with the use of performance-enhancing products.
Prof. Timothy David Noakes
The current research focus of the MRC/UCT Research Unit is to develop a novel neurobiological model of integrated human function during exercise and to use this model to optimise human exercise performance, the treatment and prevention of sports injuries, the and treatment and prevention of chronic diseases. This research has led to more than 350 scientific publications in many leading scientific publications. Professor Noakes is also author of Lore of Running which is in its 4th Edition. Co-author of Running Injuries, Lore of Cycling and Rugby Without Risk.

Prof. Leif Svanström
M.D., Ph.D. in Injury Epidemiology and Social Medicine.
He is now Professor at Karolinska Institutet and the Leader of the Research Group in Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion. L.S. spent time with policy development and is described as “The Father of the Safe Community Movement”. L.S. is the Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion.
He chaired the First World Conference of Accident and Injury Prevention in Stockholm, 1989. L.S. is the author of about 900 papers and many text-books in Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Safety Promotion.
Mr Oon Jin Teik
Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Sports Council (SSC)
Mr Oon Jin Teik was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the SSC in 2004. A former Olympian (member of Singapore swim team at 1984 Olympics), he introduced a structured system to professionalise the management of the National Sports Associations. Mr Oon has also overseen the introduction of a comprehensive framework that addresses the entire life cycle of an athlete's development pathway, and has introduced a strategy to get more people participating in sports by targeted demographic segment marketing, service excellence, product innovation and partnerships with service providers. Under Mr Oon's leadership, the SSC has partnered the Singapore Economic Development Board to develop a comprehensive blueprint that will develop the Singapore sports industry into a S$2 billion industry providing 20,000 jobs by the year 2015. As an active member of the larger sporting fraternity, he holds various key appointments in the Singapore Youth Olympics Games Organising Committee; Asian Youth Games Steering Committee; Singapore Tourism Board's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix Project Working Committee and National Youth Council. He is also a Board member of the Singapore National Olympic Committee, Singapore Sports School and Health Promotion Board. A chemical engineer by training, Mr Oon held a series of regional leadership positions in the National Starch & Chemical Company and the DuPont Company prior to joining the SSC. Mr Oon holds a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering and a Master in Business Administration in General Management from Brigham Young University, Utah, USA.
